“Trips, The Carolinas, Georgia and the South”

recommends a stop at The Kate Shepard House:

“…The Kate Shepard House, historic Mobiles must-sleep. Wendy James is as gracious a host as humanly possible. The meticulous restoration of this gorgeous 1897 Queen Anne style home by Wendy and her husband deserves the museum treatment itself. You won’t want to leave. But it is the Pecan Praline French Toast that ensures this wonderful find won’t soon be forgotten. Ask about the long lost Civil War papers found in the attic. This surely must be where the phrase “Southern Hospitality” was first uttered. The house is across the street from Katharine Phillips who played a role in the Ken Burns documentary The War."

The Kate Shepard House is a picturesque Mobile, Alabama bed and breakfast that is nestled among 100 year-old Magnolia trees. The interior combines yesterday's history with today's comforts and offers a cozy, intimate atmosphere. The inn is located in historic midtown Mobile, AL - an ideal location for a Southern getaway.  Enjoy the fresh air as you relax on the front porch or enjoy walks in the historic neighborhood. We are conveniently located only minutes away from the Mobile Convention Center, the USS Alabama and about one hour from beautiful Louisiana, Florida and Mississippi Gulf coasts. The Carnival Cruise Terminal, Bellingrath Gardens, outlet malls and antique shops are also just a short drive away.

Wendy and Bill share their home and their recipes in the premier issue of Gulf Coast Wine and Dine Magazine.
